Privacy Policy – Video Surveillance
1. Purpose
High Definition Fitness uses video surveillance in certain areas of our facility to:
- Promote the safety and security of members, staff, and visitors
- Deter theft, vandalism, and unsafe behavior
- Assist in the investigation of incidents or disputes
Surveillance is not used for routine monitoring of individual performance or personal activities.
2. Areas Under Surveillance
Video recording may occur in public and semi-public areas of the facility, including but not limited to:
- Entrances and exits
- Front desk and lobby
- Gym floor and common workout spaces
Surveillance is never used in areas where individuals have a high expectation of privacy, including:
- Locker rooms
- Washrooms
- Showers or change areas
3. Notice and Consent
Clear signage is posted at facility entrances and throughout recorded areas to notify individuals that video recording is in use.
By entering the facility or remaining in monitored areas, individuals provide implied consent to the collection of personal information as permitted under Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
4. Collection and Use of Recordings
Recorded information is collected only for the purposes described above and is not used for any unrelated purpose.
Access to recordings is restricted to authorized management.
5. Retention of Recordings
Video recordings are retained for a limited period of time and are securely deleted when no longer required, unless:
- The recording is required for an investigation
- The recording is required for legal, insurance, or law-enforcement purposes.
6. Disclosure
Recorded information may be disclosed only when required or permitted by law, including:
- To law enforcement agencies
- To insurers or legal counsel in connection with an incident
- As required by a court order or legal obligation
7. Safeguards
High Definition Fitness takes reasonable steps to protect personal information, including:
- Secure storage systems
- Restricted access controls
- Staff awareness of privacy obligations
8. Access and Questions
Individuals may request information about the collection, use, or retention of surveillance recordings, subject to legal limitations.
